In 1896, Thomas Wild and his father Thomas Wild Senior purchased Albert Works in Longton, Stoke on Trent. The Albert Works was named after Prince Albert, Queen Victoria's Consort, who she married in 1840. In 1897 Thomas Wild produced a set of commemorative pieces for Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee which led to the Royal Warrant.  As a result of the Royal Warrant Thomas Wild took the name Royal Albert. They built up a reputation of producing beautiful china tea and breakfast sets and firmly established the Royal Albert brand. Old Country Roses launched in 1962, was based on an older Royal Albert Pattern called Kings Ransom. Still one of the best selling fine bone china patterns today, it has sold more than 150 million pieces since its introduction, but there are thousands of beautiful patterns in addition to Old Country Roses
